Overview
For service providers with thousands of enterprise customers, the deployment of one application flow appliance per customer network can represent both an operational and economical challenge. Not only does this single-tenant method of netflow monitoring require the service provider to install and configure a probe at every customer site, but it makes the collection, aggregation, segmentation and analysis of the traffic data extremely onerous to perform. Worse, in some network configurations it is impossible to collect application flow data from customer-edge network equipment (due to network deployment constraints).
InfoVista’s 5View™ NetFlow SP appliance fulfills the requirements of application flow collection in multi-tenant (i.e., multi-customer) environments by delivering the features service providers need to more easily and cost-effectively manage the collection of application usage data. In addition, it supports both provider-edge (PE) and customer edge (CE) routers, enabling service providers to effectively:
- Collect large volumes of raw NetFlow data and translate it into business-oriented IP data records (IPDRs)
- Differentiate and segment application flow data on a per-customer basis
- Handle overlapping IP address schemes from different customers
- Define and manage repositories for customer-specific geographies (sites, regions, countries) and business applications
5View NetFlow SP, when used in conjunction with the 5View™ Application Usage Manager option from InfoVista’s 5View™ Service Data Manager, provides a complete and robust, carrier-grade application usage analysis and reporting solution that offers all of the cost benefits of multi-tenancy support—from appliance deployment and collection, to configuration and management, to analysis, storage and reporting.
Key Benefits
5View™ NetFlow SP, InfoVista’s application performance management appliance for carrier grade NetFlow monitoring, empowers customers to:
- Cost-effectively deliver application usage visibility and management that enterprise customers require via a multi-client application collection layer
- Decrease total cost of ownership through the rapid deployment of distributed application flow collection appliances and a centralized configuration platform
- Attain faster problem resolution thanks to proactive, real-time notification of application performance issues like network misconfiguration, rogue/unauthorized activity, and the effect of newly deployed applications
Key Features
The 5View™ NetFlow SP appliance equips service providers with the flow data collection capabilities they need to efficiently and cost-effectively launch application usage visibility/management services in multi-customer environments. It provides:
- High-volume NetFlow data management—each appliance can process up to 400,000 NetFlow records per second
- Support for multi-vendor flow-based data records (NetFlow, JFlow, SFlow, IPFIX) and heterogeneous customer network environments
- Support for provider edge (PE), multi-tenant application flow collection—each appliance deployed on a PE router is capable of supporting the collection, segregation, and processing of IP traffic from multiple customers
- Sophisticated IP data records (IPDRs), which help service providers effectively manage NetFlow data in multi-tenant environments
- De-duplication of NetFlow records, which reduces the amount of unnecessary data stored
- Zero-touch configuration of the appliances—support of central, software-based configuration management eliminates the need to provision each appliance individually
