How Multi-Vendor Radio Access Network Configuration Audits Reduce OPEX & Improve QoS

Affandy JohanEven as mobile operators rapidly evolve their technology and serve growing subscriber bases, they aren’t automatically guaranteed revenue gains. Networks today may serve a wide range of subscribers with service that is more advanced, reliable and fast, but they’re also more complex, with both legacy and new systems (4G and LTE). If these networks aren’t properly managed, optimized and maintained, mobile operators could fail to provide the excellent quality of service (QoS) that end users expect.

The key for mobile operators to manage this complexity is to assure parameter consistency within a technology and also across handover environments, especially within multi-vendor equipment environments in which the network relies on inter-system handovers (for example, between WCDMA and GSM channels) or inter-frequency handovers (across multi-vendor equipment within the same frequency band).

If these handovers aren’t executed smoothly, mobile operators could see increased frequency of costly network service problems, like dropped calls, eventually adding up to a decline in overall network performance and service quality and customer satisfaction.

Mobile Network TrafficAs InfoVista will explain in an upcoming webinar, “Reducing OPEX with Multi-Vendor RAN Configuration Audits,” this is why effective monitoring and maintenance of RAN parameter data and neighbor relations is so critical to managing and optimizing mobile network service quality. Mobile operators can overcome network configuration complexities through a RAN configuration audit solution and regular maintenance and application of optimal and consistent network settings.

After taking these steps, a mobile operator will be better able to eliminate unnecessary engineering resources, manage OPEX, and utilize updated live network configuration data for network planning and optimization. The end result is higher QoS for customers.

Today’s networks may be more complex, but mobile operators don’t have to allow the additional complexity to stand in the way of meeting their promise to subscribers.
